The brisk air of late autumn sifted through the streets of England. Multi colored leaves blew gracefully on the side walk and the sound of footsteps approached on the intersection of two streets. A young man stopped at this corner and gazed up at the building with anticipation. He wore a troubled expression, and a small sheet of paper was still clenched in his hand, slightly crumpled from maltreatment from its owner.
This man, who could be said to be in his early twenties, shifted the weight of his body to his left foot and continued to stand, glancing from the scribbled address on the paper to the actual building. He wore a long rainbow hued, thin scarf, carelessly tossed over his slender shoulders and a plain white tshirt covered with an off navey jacket. Jamming the paper into his deep denim, form-fitting jeans, the man-by the name of Ritsuka-stepped into the building, his soft brown eyes roaming the landscape as his ebony hair beat against his back.
Entering, Ritsuka quickly discovered the location of his office, the man he was to be working for; Vedette. He knew nothing of his employer except that he had recently lost his old secretary and had hired him to replace her. He had never met the man, and vaguely wondered what he was like as he neared the room, playing nerviously with the fringe of his scarf as he entered.
A suited teacherly but oddly modern looking man sat in his office. He awaited impatiently for the new secretary for he had papers that desperately needed to be typed and filed. He was irritated as it was to have lost the other who had been so good with getting everything he asked for done and on time. He had high hopes for this other due to the resume he had recieved reguarding said job.
He sighed and looked through his class schedules. He didn't mind going to them, but he would have to have a sub go for the first half of class so he could break in the new secretary. He glared at the time. "Someone's late." He mumbled to himself, his accent sounding about himself thickly.
He went to the breakroom and made a cup of cocoa, he didn't drink coffee like everyone else, the stuff sickened him. He glanced at the clock again before taking the cup back to his office.
Glancing at the scruffy black watch on his left wrist, Ritsuka knocked briskly on the door, checking himself to make sure he looked presentable. Dispite his friends' compliments and the many head-turning stares, he was very self conscious.
Vedette opened the door disgruntledly. "Hello, I am guessing you are the new secretary, in that case I will have you start right at the moment, the computer is up, all I need is for you to type this all out. Lessons and whatnot. I have a class to teach and will explain it all very soon. My sub is due to expire in fifteen minutes, any questions, get them out now."
Ritsuka was flustered by the turrent of words. His face flushed as he collected himself, "no sir, I believe you covered it all..." he said in a somewhat small voice, unsure if he should smile or not in this man's time of frustration.
Vedette smiled. "If you didn't and you mess this up you are so fired. Oh, and one thing, the one main rule.. do NOT go through my desk." He said, smiling as charming as he knew how before going to his classroom.
Ritsuka huffed slightly at this and moved quickly to his new desk. He had hoped his boss would be kinder, but perhaps, he suspected, he was this was because Ritsuka was late. He made a mental note to be on time, and hurridly began tackling his tasks, adjusting fairly quickly to the system.
After four classes, Vedette finally had a lunch break and he went to his office to check on the new employee. "How far have you gotten?" He asked, scrutinizing him carefully.
"Everything's in order!" Ritsuka said, pausing to glance up and flash a smile, a bit more at ease now that he had come accustomed to his surroundings.
Vedette raised an eyebrow, looking at the work the other had done. "Very good." He said, impressed. "Have you had your lunch break yet?" He asked, feeling kind suddenly to the other. He went to hid desk, studying everything to be sure it was all in place as he awaited the other's answer.
'No..." Ritsuka answered quietly, not looking up this time, "I havent got a lunch sir. I'll just work." he felt uncomfortable admitting this, but he was taught to answer a direct question when asked.
"Here employees eat for free, so I would suggest getting some unless you wish to starve. I will show you to the teacher's lounge if you wish." Vedette retorted, looking the other over.
At the prospect of eating, Ritsuka instinctively jumped to his feet, eyes wide. He blushed deeply, however, remembering himself, and sat back down immediatly, "umm... alright... I'll finish this first..."
Vedette sighed. "Hurry, I don't feel like standing here all day." He said irritably, looking at the clock. "We only have the hour."
"Yes, of course," Ritsuka hurridly got back to his feet and shuffled around the desk, face flushed as he waited for orders.
"Be calm." Vedette said, placing his hand on the other's shoulder. "You're a nervous ball of enegery." He said with a soft laugh.
Ritsuka gave a wry smile, "I'm sorry... you make me very nervious and on edge if I may say so sir."
"Oh truly? Well that needs to change, you have a job to do. You are supposed to be able to work in this environment and really it won't be so bad, the other that was here left me at a time when everything piled up." He began to wakl, leading the other to the breakroom. "Here we are."
Ritsuka's face lit up with happiness and he pulled away from the other, hurridly going to grab a tray and pile it with different things. He stopped suddenly at a table and turned back to face his employer, "are you comming???"
Vedette smiled. "Your the one acting starved. " He said, casually and slowly following the other as he gathered his own food.
Smiling softly, Ritsuka became pleased that the other was joining him and sat, fixing his hair and glancing occasionally at the other before diving into his food as gracefully as possible for one so hungry.
Vedette smiled and ate his food as well, finally relaxing before they would have to go to work again.
Ritsuka glanced up at him, picking up the nerve to ask him question, "umm... if you dont mind me asking, how did you end up getting here??"
"Well, years of school and major patience in chemistry. I am a teacher and I couldn't ask for a more demanding job."
Ritsuka didnt seem to understand and told him so, "why would you want to be demanded of?" he asked, pondering the prospect lightly.
Vedette smiled soft. "I like knowing I need to do something for people. Why did you take this job?" He asked, smiling a little more as he looked the other over. Such soft features it seemed the other had.
"Well..." Ritsuka said after a moment, trailing a finger over the rim of his glass, "I suppose... I just needed the money mostly. It's not because of some dream I had to be the best secratary..." he carefully watched his finger move.
"Hm, well you seem pretty good to me." Vedette said with a grin. "I suppose you will have to stay a while."
Ritsuka laughed, before abruptly ending and suddenly sighing softly, "yes.. I'm not sure I see much for me here...."
"How can you mean? It is a job that will keep you busy." Vedette said, smiling. "Besdies, you are to be paid well."
"True..." Ritsuka said slowly, proping his elbow on the table and resting his head in his hand, "but there's almost nothing I truly like in this buisness, besides, between you and me...." he leaned across the table after glancing back and forth to whisper to the other, "I see almost no potential for friends here."
"i don't have friends here either, everyone here is a grouping of stuck up snobby horses ass'." Vedette said, looking the other over with a knowing smile. "Am I that bad?" He asked suddenly.
Eyes widening, Ritsuka shook his head, "no, of course not! You are quite lovely, I'm sure," he assured him, "I just havent met you much..."
"Well, we get to know one another more through the work." Vedette said knowingly. "Perhaps we can be companions."
Ritsuka's face lit up, "Ah! That would be great!! How though??"
"By.. comming to work?" Vedette, said, surprised the other didn't already know.
"Ahh..." Ritsuka laughed slightly, "of course, I didn't think." he sat back in his seat and beamed at the other, "you know, you are a much kinder being than I first took you for..."
"Well I tend to have mood swings and you caught me at a bad time." Vedette said with a kind smile. "Don't worry your more skilled with the work then I thought you were."
"Heh... yes, I suppose we were both mistaken..." Ritsuka said, smiling somewhat as he pushed a long strand of his raven hair behind his ear, "I suppose that is fortionate."
Vedette nodded. "It would seem so. Oh I might be throwing a bit of a boring party all alone, you can come if you want. I don't trust anyone else here and you seem to be pretty open and honest."
"A party??" Ritsuka looked over at him, blinking in sight curiosity, "hmm... who else is comming?" he hadnt quite fully understood the statement.
"No body, I trust no one else."
"Oh...." Ritsuka smiled, face flushed, "alright! What are the details then??"
Vedette smirked. "Your weird. Anyhow, it is this Friday and whenever you come over is whenever it will begin.."
"Did you want me to come over your place??? Or were you thinking of your office. I dont think I could imagine a party in an office, but I'm always up for new things."
"If I held it here then everyone would be here, no I think I will hold it at home." Vedette said, already composing a list of what to bring.
"Ah!" Ritsuka had glanced at his watch and started, "lunch is over..." he gathered his things to throw away.
