Issues with VT massacre ...written by [Mordigen]

by all means this was a horrid tragedy. The worst massacre in US history, they say.


My issue:: how the media is portraying Cho Sueng Hui and his mental state. Plastered all over the news, just about every TV station out there, all over the internet you read how he was unstable, had issues with depression and a "disturbed" state of mind. He was angry, depressed, was sent for psychiatric help because a friend claimed he may be suicidal and was continuously told needed counseling because of his disturbing attitude and writing, and even kicked out of a class because of his writing.




well....plainly? -- B U L L S H I T

from this point on, anyone who shows any of those signs or symptoms will be labled a threat, will be put under close watch, will be forced into counseling or even be committed for observation to determine their demener towards themselves or others, when a large majority of the time, they don't need it. Why do I say this? Because I've been through this, I've witnessed this, I've watched my friends go through this, I've watched family members go through this, and I'm sick of it -- and now here's one more excuse for profiling bullshit.

1---Columbine.

A tragedy, yes. Were those guys fucked in the head? Yes. But we all paid for it......personally. In highschool, after the whole columbine shooting, we all had to have clear or mesh back packs - understandable. Forcing myself, and all my friends to STOP dying our hair??? bull. Continually calling in all myself and all my friends into counseling because we were supposedly "disturbed" just because we were punk or gothic - bullshit.
--I was suspended from school for 3 days because I wore a pair of black knee-high boots.....they said it was "threatening" to other students
--My friend paul was suspended for an entire week because he wore a black FASHION trench coat --- lets take into consideration that this was a fashion trench, had absolutely ZERO pockets anywhere in, on or around it, was not even as thick as an army jacket, it was strickly for looks-completely incapable of hiding or summgling anything with this thing, also lets take into consideration that even if he could hide anything in it, we had to go through TWO metal detectors and go through security screening before entering school.... and it was confiscated and "discarded" as they put it, and he was suspended
--My friend Brittain, recieved endless amounts of detention for "offensive", "threatening" or "suspicious" hair styles and colours.
--Countless necklaces, ear plugs (piercing plugs, or "spools", not actual ear plugs for noise), high-gauge piercings, rings, collars, cuffs etc confiscated from myself and all my friends on a regular basis because they were considered "dangerous" or "suspicious of threatening behavior"

the list could go on forever after this incident

2 ---- 9/11

another tragedy, absolutely, no doubting that --- we need not doubt my condolences and prayers seeing as how I lost family in 9/11, this is not the issue.....the issue is how america has come to treat arab or muslims afterwards...

It may be pretty common knowledge to those who know me that I took Arabic in high school. I loved it, it was by far one of the most amazing, cultured and beautiful languages I have ever learned, if not THE most. Issue? I happened to be sitting in Arabic class when the first twin tower got hit. Obvious to say that that was the wrong class to be in....
While the entire school was relieved of their academics, and offered prayers, counseling, support if they wanted it while we were there (police ordered the school under lockdown as FBI had reported and aircraft suspected to be heading towards the CDC....which was 15 min. from my highschool)...but were we? no. What happened to us?? The National Guard arrived at our school, took our TV away and locked us all inside the room and posted a guard by the door. Later in the week we were all taken aside one by one and put under interrogation as to why we had chosen to take Arabic.....we were all under suspicion for "home grown" terrorism......us, a group of 14-17 y/o highschool kids, none of which were illegla aliens, none of whice were under any sort of special visa, and only a 5 of which were not born within the US, though now legal us citizen.....and out of those 5, only 1 was actually from the middle east. One was myself, from Ireland, another was a friend of mine, from Morrocco, another our teacher, from Egypt, another from India, and the last was one of my best friends, Abdullah Jabbar, who just so happened to be from Syria...though had been in the US since he was 3.....

After this incident, my friend Farid, from Morocco, was forced to leave school, and Abdul and his family was forced to move back to Syria.

after my class graduated, Arabic is no longer offered as a foreign language at that shcool....which is complete and utter bullshit, not only because it is just rediculous, but the fact that we had a HUGE percentage of arab and muslim students at our school, as the Masque was in the school district - which just so happens to be one of the largest and most important in all northern Georgia.

The APS school board issues a potition to re-zone the school district to eliminate the arab/muslim neighborhood and mosque from the district. It was vetoed, but filed for appeal just 6 months ago

3 ----and now VT massacre

what exactly is my issue??  myself anf my best friend had been sent to counseling regularly in middle school and high school because our teachers reported our writing as "disturbing" 
what happened? we had an assignment, we had to write an emotive poem about something that effected us greatly in our life. We did that, we followed the assignment exactly. It just so happened that my subject matter was one of my good friends commiting suicide, and my older brother being murdered. It just so happened to be her subject matter was her rage at her father for abandoning herself and her sisters, and the favorite-playing harrassing attitude of one of the teachers at the school..

the next day we were called into the counselors office, their sat our teacher, the counselor, and our mothers....balling their eyes out.. .... for what? because we followed the assignment. We were called a threat, we were called disturbed and troubled, we were told we had sever mental and emotional issues.....yes, they told us that, nevermind asking us our side of it or asking how we felt or anything like that, they just flat out told us how we felt - and that was that.

It blew over in a few weeks, but we continued on into highschool where we both were placed in advanced literature classes, where we had many many in depth assignments. I would write endless amounts of vulgar, disturbing, angry depressing and even violent poetry and creative writing assignments.....why? because first and foremost, whatever the subject matter was, it followed the assignment, and secondly?? it was a release.

to vent, to rant and rave, to let it all out so that we DONT blow up into some means like Cho Sueng Hui, did anyone understand that? no.

just because we write something doenst mean we're going to do it---it;s a way to things off our chest in a productive manner, thats what a huge majority of cases like this are, but no

they're going to automatically assume they're a danger, even more so than before. I am so thankful to have already graduated, and no longer in school because after this incident, because i am "gothic" and "disturbed" i would be commited after this and my writings.

we were eventually forced into stop writing so in our school work......so we started a rant-board in the performing arts hall, it was a bulletin board where anyone could post up writings, rants, poetry, or just simply anger or depression driven comments to get it out and off their chest anonymously without consequence./....well , we succeeded to do that for everyone else, but we were suspended for it and it was taken down, then referred to counseling.  She got put into therapy, I was admitted in a psychiatric ward for 3 weeks --- which only made everything worse, why? because there was absolutely nothing wrong with us, we were simply speaking out minds, following assignments and ranting to get things off our chest, but we were FORCED into something because everyone decided to tell us how we felt for us, and decided we were demented and troubled


all because of a creative writing assignment..... just like Cho Sueng Hui. Not saying he was not disturbed and troubled, my all means he was, but not because of his writing. No, not because of his writing --- maybe if he could have writen whatever he wanted in peace, and have people read it and listen rather than jump to conclusions, this entire situation could have been avoided.


But no, no one looks at it from that point of view ---


no one except people who've been there --- after we were forced into counseling etc, I DID want to kill people, i WAS angry, furious and violent and disturbed, I DID wish people harm I DID want them dead.....but that's because they pushed me to that point, I never did anything drastic because finally they backed off of us, but if it had continued I cant say what would have happened



It could have very well been the same way for him, they pushed too far --- only, they didn't back off of him



that is my issue.


We are all to blame for the VT massacre, not Cho Sueng Hui, he is a victim just like the rest of them. No one takes the time to step back and look at themselve, ask themselves what did they do, maybe i could have been more supportive, maybe I could have cut him more slack, maybe we couldnt have pushed so hard, maybe I could have been more understanding, maybe I cshouldnt have been so judgemental

but no, we're perfect, he's fucked up..
