Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2

Or, what happens when the digital camera is found after missing for more than six months!

Some of these photos (and more photos yet to come) will be printed out in wallet-size. This will help fulfill one of my New Year's resolutions:to carry around photos of my family, which I had not been doing previously!

<img300*0:stuff/Am_I_Not_a_Dork%3f.jpg>
After rediscovery of the digital camera (Kathy found it somewhere) I worked through the initial goofiness. So, just to knock the wind out of any preconceived pretensions, here ya go.

I still couldn't be bothered to join MySpace, unless of course I am convinced of a good enough reason!

Definitely NOT to be carried in my wallet :P

<img300*0:stuff/Homemade_Pasta_Sauce%2c_75%25_done..jpg>
The chicken is perfectly cooked here. The veggies need more time. This homemade sauce was cooked on the 8-quart crock-pot's "keep warm" setting for the better part of two days. Three cans of tomato puree, coarsely chopped veggies (three carrot sticks, four celery sticks, five small yellow onions, one whole garlic bulb---cloves peeled and diced, of course---three medium green bell peppers) and five pounds of diced boneless/skinless chicken breasts. Added to this was a moderate amount of black pepper, several bay leaves, liberal amounts of generic Italian seasoning, and good amounts of onion powder/garlic powder, just in case the fresh stuff didn't give enough of a kick. I did not add any water, instead relying on the cooked vegetable juices to provide the moisture so there wouldn't be watery overflow forcing past the crock-pot cover and burning into the heating element. Right at the end I added two cans of 12-oz salt-free tomato paste. I never added any salt at any time . . . all sodium is naturally occurring. When I cook, you salt your portion to taste. I like mine "as is" and it's healthier this way.

Sadly it became slightly burnt and the chicken a bit dry (my fault for getting overtired!), but it still turned out 90% awesome, with an interesting smoky undertone.

Part of the initial silliness. Self-explanatory.

Not wallet-photo material.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/FacebookDnDTinyAdventures_PtheAD.jpg>
If you're on Facebook, you've probably heard about "Dungeons and Dragons: Tiny Adventures" It's an OK application, I guess, considering its unavoidable limitations. Some of the "encounters" are unintentionally hilarious in a howlingly funny way. It kind of sucks how the characters are pre-fabricated and once you reach Level 11, you're finished (you're able to give your best item to the "next generation" though). But it's just a cheesy little game, and let's leave it at that.

<img300*0:stuff/Night-shift_hours_make_me_nocturnal..jpg>
If you work at night and sleep during the day, perhaps you can relate to this. A few minutes later I had changed into something much more comfortable, and was sound asleep buried underneath the sheets. Patrick took this photo.

Not wallet-photo material.

<img300*0:stuff/Good_Morning%2c_Mommy%21.jpg>
Their day is starting, and my night has begun. Night shift work can be very difficult, but I've adapted well enough to sleep 6-8 hours with mostly unbroken sleep.

Kathy is so totally cute when she first wakes up, before she gets out of bed! <3

Possibly wallet-photo material.

<img300*0:stuff/Goofy_is_as_goofy_does..jpg>
I'm dog tired here, but I still have my sense of humor, and Patrick feeds it. He has a much better sense of humor than I did when I was his age (9).

<img300*0:stuff/OH_HAI.jpg>
This picture came out off-center, but I like the overall composition---and HECK with it, neither of us are taking this very seriously.

Possibly wallet-photo material, but not likely.

<img300*0:stuff/Happy_Patrick%21.jpg>
That's Patrick for you! ^___^

Definitely wallet-photo material.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/IndirectlyRelated_Family_and_BabyCousinOskar_October2008_ScannedPic.jpg>
You've probably seen this one before, and it isn't really part of this set. But this photo is definitely going in the wallet, so I included it here.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/JustAboutMyBedtime_TimeForYouToGetUp_.jpg>
Patrick took this picture. I cropped it a bit.

This picture might go in the wallet set . . . not sure.

<img300*0:stuff/Kathy_and_Patrick_hugging_and_cuddling.jpg>
I like how this picture turned out. By the way, Kathy isn't wearing makeup in this photo. That's her natural coloration. This photo isn't retouched at all.

This one just might go into the wallet set.

<img300*0:stuff/KathyFunButtOne.jpg>
Just plain silly, but Kathy was giggling non-stop. Kathy took the photo, and this was her idea. Who am I to discourage her?

Not wallet-photo material!!!

<img300*0:stuff/KathyButtFunTwo.jpg>
I'm returning the favor, and Kathy's still giggling uncontrollably. We happen to like each other's butts ;-)

Not wallet-photo material.

<img300*0:stuff/Kathy_in_search_of_coffee_._._..jpg>
I think someone needs a nap or a coffee, or maybe both.

Probably not wallet-photo material.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/LateAfternoonGoofiness.jpg>

I had gotten up just a little while before I took this picture. These two keep me smiling, and keep my spirits up. What would I do without Kathy and Patrick?

Possibly wallet-photo material.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/OffCenterNuclearFamily__o_O.jpg>

Either I've got a head that's thicker and denser than its weight in lead, or this picture is a bit off center. Or both.

We need a tripod.

Most likely not going into the wallet set.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/PatrickAfterSchool.jpg>

Very similar to the "before school" pic, but I like the other one better.

Not going into the wallet set . . . the "before" pic is fresher and very similar.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/PatrickAsMisterBillOhNoooo.jpg>

Patrick Doyle does his Mr. Bill impression! "Oh nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

Most likely not going into the wallet set.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/PatrickBeforeSchool.jpg>

I like this shot. It's spontaneous, unretouched and very 'real". Very similar to the "after school" picture, but he's fresher and ready to go! Also, there's less clutter behind him in this picture :P

Almost certainly going into my wallet.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/PaulyDayOffFatigues.jpg>

Kathy took this photo. This is what I look like on my day off. If I could alter anything about this picture, it would be the position of my right hand o___O

I only need my photo on my driver's license and other forms of ID, and I'd rather not carry around solo photos of myself.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/Pauly_SecretEnergySource1.jpg>

This loose green tea is not the highest-quality green tea, but it's a zillion times better than the stuff in the bags, and it's cheaper by volume. It's called "gunpowder tea" or "pearl tea" because each tea leaf is rolled up into a tiny ball, so the tea does not oxidize into (progressively) pauchong tea, oolong tea or black tea.

I have a lot of healthy energy at work, and this (along with ginseng supplements and my treated Adult ADHD . . . and a few other conventional things) is a major reason why. Nowhere near as much caffeine as coffee or even black tea, but the health benefits of green tea make it overwhelming better. Of course, it's an acquired taste. This stuff does not bite back as much as typical bagged green tea, and it tastes like grass. I don't mind it . . . in fact, I drink it plain.

Not wallet-photo material.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/PossibleRealMeLJ_IconMaterial.jpg>

Another very dorky picture of myself I took upon rediscovering the previously missing digital camera. I cropped it up, and will possibly make this a LiveJournal icon, since I only have one of "the real me" which was taken in 2003. All my other LJ icons are derived from in-progress drawings, with a couple exceptions. Still, this is as dorky as hell.

Certainly not wallet-photo material!

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/TextureFun_1.jpg>

This is the same crock-pot patch of homemade chicken vegetable pasta sauce. At this point the veggies were 90% cooked, and maybe I should have wrapped it up shortly afterward. But I didn't, so the sauce became slightly burnt and the chicken got dry. Nevertheless, the finished product tasted really good . . . smoky undertones, dry chicken and all :P

Not wallet-photo material.
<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/TextureFun_2.jpg>

This is the only really "retouched" pic I have here. I tried to get a photo of the unbrewed, rolled-up gunpowder/pearl green tea leaves, but it came out blurry. I tweaked the photo a bit and came up with this, which faintly resembles the Pink Floyd "Obscured By Clouds" movie soundtrack's album cover.

Not wallet-photo material.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/WakeUpKiss.jpg>

I did crop this picture (taken by Patrick!) and thought about further retouching it. I was still in my suit after work and probably should have at the very least washed my face. But I wanted Patrick to capture a shot of unvarnished reality. I thought about digitally tweaking the photo so my face would appear clean and glamorous. After doing a "before and after" comparison, I decided to keep the picture just the way it turned out after the crop.

Possibly wallet-photo material, but I'm not sure.

<img300*0:stuff/z/11046/Doyles2009Jan31-Feb2/WorkedOvertimeNeedAShowerButStillSmiling.jpg>

Self-explanatory. Patrick took this photo. shortly thereafter we woke up Kathy.

Not going into the wallet set.

2009-02-05 [Jewl]: Oh wow, Kathy has the most amazing complexion... I mean, besides her slight weight issue, she is gorgeous!

2009-02-05 [Paul Doyle]: Kathy has lost weight since this time last year, and she is now in a local "Biggest Loser" competion for weight loss (held by the local Subway shop). So far, so good! Now if only she could secure a part time job, though it's really tough to get ANYTHING in this economic climate . . .

2009-02-06 [Jewl]: I know it!! My job literally cut me from 20 hours a week to 4. I mean... GEEZ!

2009-02-06 [Paul Doyle]: I've been working overtime here and there. I'm one of the few who doesn't whine and moan about this kind of thing at work, but trying to actually work a sixth day (which would generate more income than Kathy working 20-30 hours a week at an entry-level part-time job) has pretty much been ruled out.

And you're right about the job cutbacks. I hear and read about them ALL THE TIME now, which makes me grateful I have a steady fullk-time job, but at the same time makes me feel bad for those who want and need to work steady hours, but they lack training, experience, schooling or seniority. My brother got laid off from his financial job (one of the very worst-hit sectors in this recession!) and my heart goes out to his young family. They have a baby boy to contend with, after all. :/

2012-05-15 [Nioniel]: My god, I'd kill for Kathy's complexion.

2012-05-16 [Paul Doyle]: Wow, this is old . . . some things have changed since this was taken (not just my computer technology) but yes, Kathy still has nice complexion. Thanks :3

2012-05-16 [Nioniel]: ^^

2012-05-16 [Paul Doyle]: Kathy still has no job, by the way, but I am probably going to be getting a secondary job at my employer very soon (out of sheer neccessity.)
