Some info about me:

My name is Barry.
I'm 26 years old, and live in the Netherlands.
I draw and paint, play guitar, play videogames, drink beer, listen to music, and have a fascination for animals.
I have several pets: a dog, a cat, and five snakes.


About art:
I have a broad taste when it comes to art.
I don't idolise any artists, but if I have to name any favorites it would be Alphonse Mucha, Edvard Munch, Vincent van Gogh, thought there's a lot more names I have great respect for, in every style and genre.

Couple of years ago I was completely into manga.
Nowadays I dislike it a lot. It was fun back then, nowadays it's so hyped up.
To me it looks all the same.
Manga/Anime is too much a way to play it safe to get populair with a big crowd.
Because it has a high cute/cool/sexy factor.
I rather see variation in comic books/cartoons, then always the same style with another sloppy spin-off story. Manga has become the grass thats eaten by a cow, and chewed over and over.

These are the ones that come to mind at the moment.
They do their own things, and put down some great drawings, photo manipulations.

I have always been into games, and like game design, character design etc.
Though it is kinda anime a lot, i've always appreciated Final Fantasy, the whole creation of the worlds fascinated me, the characters, the stories. My favorite would be Final Fantasy 9, specially the world design, and some pretty cool characters.
Warcraft has been a big inspiration for me since Warcraft 1.
Past years I been playing World of Warcraft so on and off.
And made some art themed by the game, also for my guilds website etc.

I used to work as a Graphic Designer.
Designed(not programmed) quite some websites.
A lot of variation in this work, sometimes you have to do stuff for a kindergarten, other times for big companies with various identities.
Though I did like the job a lot, you're kinda caged in a way because the custommers have their own idea's too, which sometimes/often times take away creative freedom. So eventhough the custommers were satisfied most of the time, I got left with the feeling that a lot more creativity could be put into it. But not every custommers dares to take such a step and want a unique, yet basic understandable website.
That's why I like illustrating better.

I've not been very creatively active past years due to reallife.
So I have no website at the moment, no portfolio.
There is a old elftown, with which I am not happy at all ;)
But the link will be found at the bottom of my profile anyways.
My goal is to have a portfolio up and running next year.



Music:
I am currently learning to play guitar. I teach myself by means of internet, and books/magazines.
I have two guitars, an Ibanez semi-acoustic, and a spanish guitar.
Mostly I like rock, mainly guitar music, and jazzy kinda music. The Beatles and Sting are my biggest favorites.
There's loads more bands/music artists out there that I like, not gonna list them all because that would be impossible.


Take Elftown Back

Elftown:
Wow... it's pretty shallow!
This used to be a place of inspiration and fun.
Now it's an emo-infested/slitwrist hangout.
All those young girls inspired by MTV playing jail-bait, and then complain about all those pervs commenting.. like.. Why am I not surprised they do that?
There's a lot of people out there who visit this place to view art.
Not to watch pictures of girls and boys who try to smear as much black make-up as possible on their already miserable faces.
It makes real artists stay away, makes interested-in-art-people stay away.
And before you know it, elftown completely misses it's point.
It's a fantasy community for art in every form. There's other places where you can get emo-attention.
I could continue but what i'm trying to say is... I miss the old elftown!

My dog:
Best.Dog.Ever.
Her name is Shanna, a Dutch Shepherd(Not deutch/german, mind!).
She's black, with a golden undercoat, which shines through in stripes.
We done several training courses, last one we did we got a score of 91%
Highest of all people/dogs in the class! So very proud of her!
We go for bike rides every day, keeps us both fit.
There's a huge park just outside my street, where we go play some frisbee every other day. And just lay in the sun in our bed of grass and clover.
Very high energy dog, used to be a pain in the butt when she was a puppy, but after all the training and getting to know 'what a dutch shepherd really is'! it's going so well, this is a one in a million dog. She's my little girl. And she get everything the best, and she brings me a lot of happiness and joy!





My snakes:
4 boa constrictors,
Largest is about 1.50 meter. The others are between that and 80cm.
I built a big terrarium for them.
Corn snake is a wild-color. She was my first snake, and always a pleasure to watch her eat. She's freaking fast when attacking, total killer instinct.
And she likes to be in my shirt, and crawl all around. Whereas the boa's just lay around my neck/crawl around my head/face, or wrap themselfes around my hand.
