You wander into a strange room, completely empty, except for a small office chair in the center of the room.
"hello..." A voice whispers.
"hello?" you say unsurely.
The chair turns and the lights become brighter. There sits a girl. A simple one, not that ugly, not that pretty, mostly in between.
She smiles at you.
"I've been anticipating your visit." she says. "welcome. My name is Jessica."
You wave slightly, almost nerviously.
The girl hands you some cookies on a platter, chocolate chip, and a glass of milk.
"Come in! Sit, get comfortable! Watch some TV if you want!" She says warmly.
You sit in the office chair, and it suddenly morphs into a recliner. You take a bite of a cookie, as a telivision appears on the wall.
Smiling contently, the girl nods.
"call me if you need me. I'll be right down the hall..." She gives a small bow and leaves the room, shutting the door behind her.
Only seconds later do you realize your alone.
You shut off the Telivision and eat up the rest of your cookies. Hungry now for company, you called out the girls name quietly. "Jessica."
The girl arrived back into the room quickly, twirling her hair around her finger.
"Yes?" she asked.
You noticed something was different about her... something was wrong.
You looked into her eyes, trying to figure out what it was.
She blankly stared back at you.
"May I help you?" she chimed, gaining your attention again.
Then you noticed it.
Thats what was wrong.
"I just had a question..." you started slowly.
"Dont hesitate to ask." She sighed. Obviously, she was getting restless.
"Is there anyone else here?"
The girl blinked, holding out a tiger stuffed animal.
"This is Krystofer. He lives here with me." she explained, softly stroking the tiny mass of stuffing.
You looked at her like she was crazy. 'What a nut.' you thought.
A tear silently carresed her cheek, but she wiped it away as soon as it fell.
"I apologize." She muttered, another tear falling. "You must believe I'm insane."
You continued to watch her, saying nothing.
"Its just... Krystofer is the only one around here that I can talk to... I dont get many visitors, and it gets rather lonely, you know."
You nodded sympathetically.
"I felt alone when you left for a few minutes. I couldn't imagine what its like to be alone forever." You sighed.
Jessica sat down on the floor in a slump.
"You may leave now. Im sure someone is missing you somewhere." she cried.
You thought back to your loved-ones, and imagined them being taken away. You shuddered.
"I'm sorry. I hope you understand." you murmured, opening the door to leave.
Just as you walked out the door, you heard her whisper,
"They never stay anyway..."
