   An archon is a celestial being that is composed of energies and elements of pure goodness and Divine Law of the Heavens. Some paladins are converted into archons after death if their deities feel they exemplify the virtues of their given faith. Archons are heavenly Outsiders from the plane of Celestia/Celestia's Seven Mountain Heavens/Realm of Celestia.
   They have charged themselves with the protection of their home realm, and also consider themselves guardians of all who are innocent or free of evil. They are the natural enemies of fiends, particulary Baatezu and Tanar'ri (see Devils and Demons. They do not attack unless provoked, or they witness or can prevent an act of true evil.
   There are many types of Archons, such as Hound Archons, Latern Archons and Trumpet Archons, which are the most commonly-encounted Outsiders to travel to the Material Realm.
