Want to see a movie that contains humor, horror and a headless guy? Then you're in luck! The 1999 film Sleepy Hollow, (directed by Tim Burton) contains all these things and more.
It all starts out in 1799 New York where the very squeamish police constable Ichabod Crane, (played by the gorgeous Johnny Depp) is sent to the town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate the murders of 3 people who have been found decapitated. When Ichabod arrives he boards a room in the home of the Van Tassels, a very rich family in town, where he meets their daughter Katrina (Christina Ricci) and starts to develop feelings for her.
During his stay there, the town elders tell him they believe the murderer isn't a human... but a supernatural being who rides on a black horse during the night slaughtering people. Ichabod doesn't believe the rumors...but shortly changes his mind when he sees the Headless Horseman face to face...
Throughout the movie, Ichabod uses new technology and techniques to help him in his investigation...which comes in very handy when the body count increases. Along with Katrina and the orphaned boy Young Masbeth, (whose father was killed by the Horseman) Ichabod discovers terrible and gruesome secrets within the spooky town of Sleepy Hollow.
Overall, I think this movie is very enjoyable and worth a watch. It's funny, extremely gory and has a good, solid plot. If you want to be grossed out, have a few laughs and perhaps drool over Johnny Depp... then this is the film for you! On the other hand, if you hate the sight of blood then maybe you should give this a miss. Just a word of warning ;D
