2009-09-27 [Vou]: Well, for starters, my mother is deathly afraid of them - at 6-years-old, a snake around 6 foot made attempts to have her for a midnight snack. So, she was nearly killed by one. And ever since I've been around her, she kept me away from them coz she wouldn't be around them. It wasn't until 2 years ago (she's 37 now) that she could look at a picture of a snake and not shake uncontrollably. She's come a long way.

But, I do know that most are harmless and will only attack if threatened or provoked - I understand that. However, it's something I'm working on to get my brain to understand that, but it's still that small fear that something could happen knaws at the back of my thought-processes. I also hate the feel of their skin on mine. Always have. D:

2009-09-28 [Talkris]: Its their skin that I love most. My snake does this cute little shimmy when he slithers, its adorable.

2009-09-28 [Vou]: Awh. See, I can be around them so long as I *know* they're enclosed in cages. My boyfriend is making attempts to help me with my fear, so that I can get comfortable around Jack and Eisenhower... his brother's snakes. One tries to escape alot and the other (Eisenhower) gets grumpy and is a good six feet. O_O;

2009-09-28 [Talkris]: Heh, yeah grumpy snakes are silly. Here's a trick though, just in case you ever do get bitten, dab him on the nose with rubbing alcohol. They let go instantly.

My snake also avoids me if I just painted my nails. He hates all those smells.

2009-09-29 [Talkris]: That's a good thing. Some species are more bitey then others. I have a king and when he was little he used to try and bite me, but then he got used to me now he's a mush. I can squish his head and he doesn't care. Its really funny.

2009-10-02 [The Monochrome Rainbow]: My milk (Milks and Kings are closely related) was also nippy when he was young, but all of our snakes are no longer head-shy.

2009-10-02 [Talkris]: You just have to handle them everyday. And get bit when they're little, because their teeth are so small they don't puncture the skin. Its cute because they pretty much just drool on you until they let go.
