I don't think this is a good procedure at all. You should discuss it openly and together with the submitter, otherwise the decision will not be understood and it might become a worse decision.

2008-12-21 [Chimes]: By 'openly' do you mean in public? Or are you thinking something along the lines of within messages?

It would be a good idea but if you do it on a public wiki and you're having to tell someone that you're not accepting their submissions for whichever reason at the time it might be a little bit embarrassing for the submitter, depending on the reasoning behind the rejection.

I do think it's a good idea, though.

2008-12-21 [Tynuka-Rhytishy]: Within messages would be nice. That way you know the reasons and maybe could if discuss with them while the decision's being made. Publicly. I don't think so. Some people do get embarrassed and could keep them from entering more photos.

2008-12-23 [Hedda]: It can't be avoided that someone else notice that they don't get accepted. Just state on their submitted page what's wrong or missing and I don't think it will be a problem.

I personally hate it when bosses take me aside to talk and it feels like the boss is ashamed of what they're doing if there is no reason to take it privately. And in this case there are strong reasons to not take it privately as it makes it possible for others to help out.

2008-12-24 [Hedda]: I don't think "Can you explain what kind of dogs there are in the pictures?" is really fit for a private message.

I'm not sure how to handle too blurry or small photos though. I generally think we should sort them out and put them on pages with low-quality warnings. Many of my own pictures should be moved from the main page to a back-page maybe. Lots of boring work though.
