Hoodwinked is essentially the story of “Little Red Riding Hood,” but told from many different perspectives. The police arrive at Granny’s house to investigate an incident which involved Granny tied up in the closed, a wolf in her clothing, a little girl in a red riding hood, and a lumberjack who bust through the window wielding an axe.
Each of these characters is questioned in turn, because a “goody bandit” is on the loose, stealing recipes and putting goody-makers out of business for good. As each of the characters is questioned, secrets are revealed and this story sure is different from the “classic” telling of “Little Red Riding Hood.”
The animation for this film is pretty basic, which is not to say “bad,” but definitely not great. The cast for voice talents is impressive, with Anne Hathaway as Red, Patrick Warburton as The Wolf, Xzibit as Chief Grizzly, Jim Belushi as The Woodsman, and Glenn Close as Granny. The film has great pacing, some memorable songs, and adorable humor.
I recommend this movie for kids and adults alike. There’s enough “adult humor” in this film to keep adults enjoying it as much as kids will. After watching this movie, I’m definitely looking forward to the sequel!
