Why The Guy On The Motorcycle Going 90 mph Was An Idiot

Okay, so the guy's breaks had gone out and he had his girlfriend on the back of his motorcycle and he wanted to save her. That's real nice. But chivalry and selflessness should not be attempted unless your IQ, at the very least, goes into double figures.
The guy could've easily just let go of the gas, allowing him to coast. He may be coasting at 90 mph, but if he wasn't stupid, he could have waited until he found a hill to travel up, causing him to eventually slow down. What did he do, crash on purpose? Stupid fuck.
Now about his airhead girlfriend... (I'm allowed to assume she was an airhead if she was dating this guy. Or maybe she was dating him for money.) How the hell would she have heard him if he was wearing a helmet and traveling 90 mph?
She also could have died easily even if she WAS wearing a helmet. Colliding with something at 90 mph wearing no protection save for a covering on your head? You're not gonna walk away from that one with just a concussion and a few scrathes. And what the hell was HE doing going that fast when she wasn't wearing one? And she shouldn't have gotten on in the first place.
